Only two teams, Albion and Bennett, control their own destiny in the quest for the B North Division football championship and the Purple Eagles and Tigers will meet in a key showdown at 7 p.m. Friday at Albion.

Bennett stayed undefeated at 4-0 in the division, 5-0 overall, by handing City of Buffalo rival Burgard (3-1, 4-1) its first loss last weekend 20-12. The Tigers other B North wins have included 46-14 over Medina, 56-6 over Barker/Roy-Hart and 42-7 over Lew-Port.

Albion stayed in the thick of the title chase by making it four wins in a row with a similar 40-8 romp over Lew-Port improving the Purple Eagles record to 3-1 in the division and 4-1 overall.

“We are playing a very good football team,” said Albion Coach Gary Parisi. “They’ve got great size and speed and they don’t make a lot of mistakes.”

Continuing a successful trend over the last four games the Purple Eagles had balanced scoring in the victory over Lew-Port as quarterback Kyle Smith ran for one touchdown and passed to Des Blackmon and Trey Hart for two more scores. Hart also had a punt return for a score while Blackmon and Tyler Rotoli both added running touchdowns.

Medina, which romped past Barker/Roy-Hart 66-8 last weekend to improve to 2-2 in the division and 3-2 overall, will try to stay in the hunt for a sectional playoff berth as the Mustangs visit Lew-Port (2-3, 2-3) at 7 p.m. Friday.

The Lancers hold an 11-9 lead in the series with the Mustangs including a wild 31-30 win last fall.

The Mustangs got touchdowns from six different players in last weekend’s romp including Tom Follman, Tyler Howard, Devin Joy, Brett Pecoraro, Jason Hellwig and Ty Hrovat.

In the Genesee Region League Holley (1-3, 1-4) will look to make it two wins in a row as the Hawks visit Oakfield-Alabama (2-2, 2-3) at 7 p.m. Friday.
