Looking to stay on track to end a dozen year long title drought, Albion will host Barker in a key Niagara-Orleans League boys swim meet at 11 a.m. Saturday.

Undefeated (5-0) Albion can open up a commanding two meet lead with a victory over runner-up Barker which is at 4-1. However, a Barker victory would pull the Raiders into a first place tie with the Purple Eagles with four meets remaining on the schedule for each team.

The Purple Eagles handed the Raiders their only loss by a 95-75 score in the season opener at Barker.

Albion, which last captured the N-O crown during the 2005-06 season, is led by senior Carlitos Sanchez, juniors Matt Kovaleski and Harrison Brown and sophomores Sam Sanchez and Thomas Furmanski.

Barker, whose only previous N-O title came 30 years ago when the Raiders earned a co-championship with Akron (both 9-1) during the 1987-88 season, is sparked by the senior trio of Collin Webb, Adam Wagner and Andrew Jenks.

The girls meet will see Barker (2-3) look to regain the .500 mark with a win over Albion (0-5).

The meet had originally been scheduled for this afternoon.

The Medina at Newfane meet, which was also frozen out today with the schools closed, has been rescheduled for January 13 at 10 a.m.

Saturday’s local high school action will also see the Albion wrestling team competing in the Victor Tournament while Medina will be at the NCCC Tournament and Lyndonville at the Alexander Tournament.
