Start of Midget ‘B’ League season is delayed

The long standing Albion vs. Medina baseball rivalry will be renewed in summer loop competition when the Lockport Midget ‘A’ League begins play next week.

Albion and Wheatfield/Cambria have joined the now seven team “A’ League which also includes returning teams Medina, Lyndonville, Roy-Hart, Akron and Lockport.

Albion will host Medina in the season opener at 6 p.m. Tuesday June 16. The other openers that evening will have Lyndonville at Akron and Lockport at Roy-Hart as Wheatfield/Cambria draws the bye. ‘A’ League action will continue at 6 p.m. next Thursday June 18 with Roy-Hart at Lyndonville, Albion at Wheatfield/Cambria and Akron at Medina.

The five team Midget ‘B’ League was scheduled to begin play this coming Monday June 15 but uncertainty surrounding the status of the Lockport entry has delayed the start of the season.

Currently the Lockport team has only seven players. League officials have set a deadline of Friday for the Lockport team to get a sufficient number of players. If Lockport is not able to field a team the league will have only four teams – Albion, Medina, Lyndonville and Somerset.

Because of whether the ‘B’ will be a four or five team league the start of the season is now expected to be pushed back until June 22.
