Albion pushed across a run in the seventh inning to edge past host Somerset 4-3 this evening in a Lockport Midget ‘A’ League baseball game.

JaQuess Harrison reached on a walk, stole second and came home with the decisive run for Albion on an RBI single by Vincent Zona.

The Albion defense then turned a key double play in the bottom of the seventh from winning pitcher Thomas Furmanski to Harrison at shortstop to Isaiah Callicutt at first after Eddie Wasnock had singled to open the frame for Somerset.  Zona then hauled in a fly ball in centerfield for the final out.

Albion also got off to a quick start scoring twice in the first inning on a single by Furmanski and a fielders choice play off the bat of of Callicutt. A leadoff double by Harrison and a walk set up the threat.

Albion made it 3-1 in the third as Bryce Pritchard doubled and came home on a sacrifice fly by Furmanski.

Somerset knotted the contest at 3-3 by scoring twice in the home half of the third on an RBI single by Chauncey McKee and a wild pitch.  Two walks and an error loaded the bases to set up the opportunity.

Somerset then got a leadoff double from Jacob Hoffee in the fourth but could not capitalize as a throw from Zona to Pritchard at catcher got a key out at home.

Furmanski, who allowed only 4 hits and struck out 5, blanked Somerset over the final three innings on two scattered singles by Ryan Voss in the fifth and Wasnock in the seventh.

Albion improves to 2-3 and Somerset slips to 1-2.

Somerset’s Dave Class slides into home just ahead of a tag by Albion pitcher Thomas Furmanski.
