Albion tips Brighton to grab U18 soccer lead
A pair of first half goals proved to be just enough as Albion posted a key 2-1 victory over host Brighton Thursday to take over first place in the U18 Division 3 of the Rochester District Youth Soccer League.
The victory boosts Albion’s record to 6-0-2 (20 points) as Brighton slips into second place at 6-2-0 (18 points). Both teams have two games remaining.
Mariah Plain scored Albion’s first goal off an initial shot by Brylie Hapeman.
Plain then found the net again to give Albion the 2-0 half-time advantage.
Brighton did cut the deficit to 2-1 in the second half but could not net the equalizer.
Hannah Ulmen anchored the Albion defense making several outstanding saves in goal throughout the contest.
“Each player had an amazing game and hung really tough throughout it all even though we were missing some key players,” said Coach Jenna Mrzywka. “I am extremely proud.”
