Albion sweeps Medina in youth football

Albion scored a three game sweep over visiting Medina Saturday in Niagara Orleans Football Association action.

Albion 14, Medina 0

Jayce Torres had 69 yards rushing and 2 touchdowns to lead the Eagles ground attack. Cayden Farrell picked up 59 and Dominic Westlund 22.

Zion O’Neal and Farrell each had 6 tackles and a fumble recovery for Albion. Elian Almonte had 5 tackles and a fumble recovery.

For the Ponys, plays were made on defense by Jace Hamilton, Cayden Dubois, David Parsell, Shane Re and Luke Ayrhart to keep the game close until the end. Offensively there were some good runs from Dubois, Lyric Chinn, Zach Allen and Parsell.

Albion 32, Medina 6

Heyden Almonte had a huge day on the ground with 147 yards and 2 touchdowns for Albion. Ethan Olles had 53 yards, Giovanni LaMartina 45 yards ,Camden Holt 40 yards and each also had a TD.

Landon Farrell led the Eagles defense with 5 tackles, Colton Moreland and Holt had 4 each. Connor Hinckley had 3 stops.

Albion built a 19-0 lead before Damareon Shine was able to score for Medina but that was all the offense they could must against a tough Albion defense. The Medina defense was led by Shine, Xander Groves, Austin Harper, Ja’Keir Taylor, Philip Molina and Patrick Grollmes.

Varsity
Albion 35, Medina 12

Medina pulled within two at one point but Albion finished the game with 21 unanswered points to earn the win.

Elijah Doxey had a great day on the ground for Albion with 155 yards rushing and 3 touchdowns. Noah Harrison added a 35 yard TD.

On Defense for the Eagles, Doxey, Zac Chinn, Chris Almonte and Jonah Elsenheimer had 4 tackles apiece, Hayden Cowley added 3. Doxey had 2 interceptions and Harrison had 1 that he returned 52 yards for a TD.

Medina tied the score at 6-6 on a Matthew Jacobs TD run. The Stallions later cut the deficit to 14-12 after an interception return for a TD by Preston Woodworth but could get no closer.
