Albion sweeps Batavia in youth football
Albion swept to a tripleheader victory over Batavia Saturday in Niagara Orleans Football Association (NOFA) action.
Beginner Division
Albion 12, Batavia 6
Kenny Almonte rushed for 84 yards and both Albion touchdowns. Gunner Jackson picked up 17 yards and Matthias Ellis 9 for the Albion rushing attack.
Almonte led the defense with 10 tackles, Xavier Weis added 8, Ellis 6, Lexington Pridgen 4, Myles Labarge, Artavion Lewis, Maximiliano Rivera, Jaxon Francis, Gunner Jackson and Drake Neri 2 each.
Mini Division
Albion 19, Batavia 14
Down 14-13, a Grayson Roberts touchdown run gave Albion the lead they would hold on to. Elian Almonte’s third forced fumble of the day on the ensuing Batavia drive sealed the victory.
Almonte rushed for 108 yards and a score. Albion also, had 84 yards and a TD receiving from Roberts, who also added 45 on the ground.
Almonte led the defense with 9 tackles, Jaidyn Richardson 8, Conor Murphy 7, Roberts 5, Hudson Palmer 4 and Patrick Westlund 3. Zeus Vallejo, Mason Cornick, Chase Armer, Zion Richardson, Roman Tisdale, Elijah Cornick and Wyatt Purnell were also all in on tackles.
JV Division
Albion shutout Batavia
Jayce Torres returned the opening kickoff for a touchdown and added a 43 yard TD run. There were also touchdown runs also by Damareon Shine 62 yards, Camden Holt 26 yards, Arthur Lewis 52 yards and Jace DiMatteo 1 yard. DiMatteo was also 4-10 for 50 yards including a 22 yd TD to Holt. Cayden Farrell was 1-1 with a 3 yard TD to Isaiah Hewitt.
Lewis led the defense with 11 tackles and a sack. Shine had 6 tackles, Farrell 4 tackles and a sack. Matthew Colmerero and Holt had 4 each, Kairo Bennett, Edward Hammonds, Harrison Froman 3 each. Parker Gardner, Sebastian Stritzinger, Arkell Lewis, Isaac Button and Jai’kiah Drisdom were also all in on tackles.
