Albion splits with Akron in N-O track opener

A quartet of individual event winners helped spark the Albion boys track team to an 113-23 victory over host Akron this afternoon in the Niagara-Orleans League season opener.

Albion’s Olivia Krenning carries the baton on the final leg of the 3200 Relay.

The Purple Eagles had Tony Freeman win both the 110 Hurdles and 400 Hurdles, Reuben Rivers the 1600 and 3200, Chris Shabazz the High Jump and Triple Jump and Ozzie Matos the 100 and 200 sprints.

Albion also had Landin Chaffee win the 800, Alex Zaczek the Pole Vault, Zach Coleccechi the 400, Brendan LaBaron the Shotput and Nick Newton the Discus.

Akron did gain a split on the day by winning the girls’ meet 78-63.

The Lady Tigers were led by a trio of individual event double winners including Sophia Jones (100 and 200), Bella Asmus (Shotput and Discus) and Lauren Wagner (1500 and 3000).

Albion got wins from Olivia Krenning (400 Hurdles), Bri Haines (Pole Vault), Saleya Williams (Triple Jump) and Honesty Little in both the Long Jump and High Jump.
