Albion spikers win sectional opener

No. 7 seed Albion outlasted visiting No. 10 Newfane 20-25, 25-16, 25-20, 18-25, 25-18 this evening in the opening round of the Section VI Class B2 volleyball playoffs.

Ella Knaak registered clutch ace serves to win four of the final five points in the decisive fifth set for the Purple Eagles.

Sierra Newton had 9 kills, 7 aces and 13 digs, Natalie Lathrop 10 kills and 6 digs, Breanda Johnson 19 assists, Isabella Gibbs 8 aces and 7 digs, Logan Conlon 11 digs, Emani Poole 5 aces and Knaak 7 aces for the Purple Eagles.

Mckenzie Perry had 9 blocks and 8 kills and Faith Morgan 12 kills for Newfane.

The teams also split a pair of 3-2 decisions during the Niagara-Orleans League season.

Albion next visits No. 2 Springville in the quarterfinals at 6 p.m. Friday.

Also in Class B2 Friday, No. 4 Medina will host No. 5 Fredonia and in Class C1 No. 4 Roy-Hart entertains No. 5 Lafayette, both at 6 p.m.
