Albion spikers to host Medina in key N-O opener

Niagara-Orleans League volleyball action gets underway Wednesday with a key clash between last year’s top two finishing teams as Albion hosts rival Medina at 6:30 p.m.
Albion posted a 12-0 record last fall to capture the N-O championship for the second year in a row while Medina finished in the runner-up spot at 8-4, the Mustangs best finish in a decade.
Both teams return a solid veteran nucleus.
Albion returns five starters including a trio of first team N-O All-League selections in seniors Kelsee Soule and Meghan Hurley and junior Chanyce Powell. The Purple Eagles starting unit also returns seniors Ashlee Bocach and Aleah Foos, who earned second team All-League honors.
Medina is led by junior Emily Kams, who earned second team All-League honors and junior Molley Gross, an honorable mention selection. The Mustangs also have experience in seniors Abby Maines, Megan O’Keefe, Elizabeth Newman along with juniors Carley Schultz and Lexi Sargent and sophomore Alyssa Beyer.
Wednesday’s other N-O openers will have Newfane at rival Wilson and Roy-Hart at CSAT as Akron draws the bye.
The Lyndonville boys volleyball team will also make its debut on Wednesday hosting Pavilion.
The week’s soccer action will be highlighted by the Kendall girls Tournament on Thursday and Saturday as the Lady Eagles will face Albion in the opening round.
In N-O girls soccer action, Albion visits Roy-Hart in a key match on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. while in N-O boys action, defending champion Medina/Lyndonville hosts Wilson at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday.
