Albion spikers place second at tourney

Albion took second place honors at the Churchville-Chili volleyball tournament today as the Purple Eagles dropped a 25-9, 25-23 decision to the host Lady Saints in the championship match.

The Purple Eagles went 5-1 in pool play scoring two set wins over both Spencerport and Greece Arcadia and splitting a pair of sets with Pittsford Mendon.

Albion then defeated Batavia 25-17, 25-18 in the semifinals to advance to the title match.

The Purple Eagles were represented on the All-Tournament team by Sierra Newton and Chanyce Powell.

Albion next visits rival Medina at 6:30 p.m. Monday in a Niagara-Orleans League match.

Holley 25-25-18-25, Pembroke 19-19-25-17

Holley earned its first Genesee Region League victory victory by downing Pembroke in four sets Friday.

Ava Kohut had 5 service aces, 2 spiking kills and 7 digs; Nicole Mrzywka 4 kills, 2 blocks and 3 digs and Jennah McMillion 5 aces, 3 assists and 3 digs to lead the way for the Lady Hawks.
