Albion spikers down rival Medina

Front-running Albion posted a straight set 25-17, 25-13, 25-16 victory over host Medina this evening to stay undefeated at 8-0 in Niagara-Orleans League volleyball competition.

Chanyce Powell had 9 spiking kills and 3 blocks, Kaitlyn VanSkiver 5 kills and 3 service aces, Meghan Hurley 5 aces and 15 assists and Kelsee Soule 6 kills to lead the way for Albion.

Neither team could manage more than two points in a row in the first set until Albion’s Ashlee Bocach served up points 20-23, a run which included two aces and a block by Powell, to help the Purple Eagles close out the 25-17 win.

In the second set, a pair of short scoring bursts by Soule and Emilie Barleben keyed the Purple Eagles to a 25-13 win.

Soule served up points 2-4, a run which included an ace, a kill by VanSkiver and a block by Powell, and points 16-18, a run which included a kill by Powell and an ace.

Barleben served up points 10-13 and 23-25 as each run included a pair of aces.

Medina did grab an 8-3 lead early in the third set as Carley Schultz served up points 5-8, a run which included a kill by Je’ne Brown.

However, Albion answered back with a big seven point run of service points by VanSkiver (5-11) to take the lead for good at 11-8.

Hurley later served up 4 points in a row (19-22), a run which featured three straight aces, upping the Purple Eagles advantage to 23-14.

Soule closed out the set and the match for Albion with a kill.

Medina is now 3-4 in N-O action.

Brianna Brewer had 14 service points, including 2 aces, and Skyler Christopher 10 points, including 2 aces, to lead Roy-Hart (5-2) to a three set 25-11, 25-15, 25-18 victory over visiting CSAT (0-8).

Taylor McGhee had 18 kills, Madison Wolcott 23 assists, Alex Buscaglia 11 digs and Amber Haseley 4 kills to lead Newfane (2-5) past rival Wilson (2-5) in three sets 25-23, 25-19, 25-21.
