Albion spikers down Medina to open N-O title defense

Albion opened defense of its Niagara-Orleans League volleyball title by scoring a straight set 25-19, 25-17, 25-14 victory over host Medina this evening.

Albion jumped out to a commanding 16-2 lead in the opening set as Kelsee Soule served up points 2-6 and Chanyce Powell 10-16. Powell also had two spiking kills and Aleah Foos a kill and a block during that stretch.

Medina though battled back to within four at 22-18 as Emily Kams scored points 8-9, Molley Gross 13-14 and Emma Ambrose 16-18 but the Mustangs could get no closer.

The second set saw Albion open up a 19-11 lead as Soule served up points 16-19.
Medina though stayed close as a three point run of points by Gross (14-16) cut the deficit to 20-16 but again the Mustangs could get no closer.

Albion scored five of the next six points, including a kill by Powell and an ace for the final point by Sara Millpaugh, to close out the 25-17 victory.

In a near instant replay of the opening set, Albion roared out to a commanding 19-3 lead in the third set as Soule scored points 2-7, Meghan Hurley 10-14 and Elizabeth Bentley 16-19.

Medina did pull back to within 19-13 after a long run of nine straight service points by Nicole Blount, including five aces, but that was a close as the Mustangs would get.

Albion got service back on a kill by Soule and then Millspaugh served up points 21-24 to help put a lock on the Purple Eagles victory.

Powell and Foos both had five kills on the night and Hurley four for Albion.

Blount had 6 aces and 2 kills and Gross 8 points for Medina.

Sara Meal had 6 points and 4 kills, Olivia Vorholzer 10 points, 2 aces and 4 kills, Bea Bacon 4 kills and 2 blocks and Skyler Christopher 9 points, 4 aces and 15 assists to lead Roy-Hart to the three set victory over visiting CSAT.

Newfane 20-25-17-25-25
Wilson 25-22-25-22-22

Erica Wright had 17 digs, 10 kills and 4 aces, Vicki Harrington 7 blocks and 3 kills and Madison Wolcott 8 kills and 13 assists to lead Newfane to a five set victory over visiting rival Wilson.

Ana Bryer had 30 digs for Wilson.

Lyndonville 25-14-25-15

Cierra Riley had 4 kills, 4 blocks and 1 aces and Samantha Raduns 3 kills and 2 aces for Lyndonville in a four set Genesee Region League loss at Pembroke.
