Albion spikers cap off 12-0 N-O title season
Celebrating Senior Night in style, Albion rolled past visiting Newfane 25-18, 25-8, 25-15 this evening to complete a perfect 12-0 Niagara-Orleans League volleyball championship season.
Kelsee Soule had 9 service points, 5 spiking kills and 10 digs; Sara Millspaugh 7 points, 9 kills and 6 digs; Julissa Curcie 9 points and 6 digs; Brooke Wilson 9 points and Chanyce Powell 4 kills to lead Albion’s balanced attack.
“We’re very happy,” Albion coach Ann Capacci said of completing the undefeated N-O title campaign. “The big thing is we keep doing the little things and continue to focus on playing as a team.”
Albion jumped out to a quick 11-3 in the first set as Soule served up points 1-6, a run which included thee aces, and Powell followed up with points 9-11.
Two more kills by Powell, along with two by Soule and one each by Millspaugh and Meghan Hurley, helped the Purple Eagles close out the 25-18 win.
Albion again built up a 14-6 lead in the second set as Curcie served up points 6-10 and Millspaugh 12-14.
Wilson then quickly closed out the set by putting together a run of eight straight service points (18-25).
Newfane jumped out to an 8-4 lead in the third set and kept even at 9-9 before Albion pulled away behind short bursts of service points by Hurley (11-12), Wilson (14-15) and Jasmyn Smith (18-19). Soule also had two kills and Millspaugh one during that stretch as the Purple Eagles pulled out to a 19-13 lead.
Ashlee Bocach closed out the set and the match for Albion by serving up points 23-25 as Wilson polished off the final point with a kills.
Newfane finishes the N-O season at 6-6.
Lyndonville 25-19-25-15, Wheatland-Chili 21-25-14-22
Lyndonville defeated visiting Wheatland-Chil in four sets in a Genesee Region League match Tuesday as Morgan Hugnerford had 6 kills and 5 aces, Cierra Riley 7 kilsl and 3 blocks and Heather Mufford 16 assists.
In another G-R match, Kendall defeated Oakfield-Alabama 25-16, 26-24, 24-26, 14-25, 25-23.
