Anchored by a large group of nine returnees, Albion will begin prepping for the Niagara-Orleans League softball season by visiting Kenmore West for a non league contest on Friday.
The Purple Eagles large veteran contingent includes seniors Maya Knaak (First base) and Emma Foote (Utility); juniors Abby Wittenberg (Outfield), Alison Gibson (Outfield), Janessa Lindsey (Catcher) and Madison Hughson (Outfield) along with sophomores Mackenzie Snook (Infield), Cami London (Catcher) and Alana Irvine (Pitcher). Snook and London both received N-O All-League Honorable Mention.
“We’re excited to get out there,” said Coach Sara Koppenhaver. “Having a large group of returnees is huge for us. They are familiar with the other pitchers and teams in the league so knowing our opposition will really help us.”
The Purple Eagles graduation losses included pitcher Leah Pritchard, infielders Aly Knaak and Kenzi Hapeman and outfielder Olivia Bieber. Knaak was a first team All-League selection while Pritchard was a second team honoree and Hapeman an Honorable Mention selection.
Albion, which went 5-7 in the league last spring, will open the N-O season at home on April 14 against rival Medina.
