Albion relay team wins sectional title

Albion’s girls 400 meter relay team sprinted to a victory at the Section VI championships Saturday at Olean to earn a spot in the upcoming state championships.

The Purple Eagles quartet of Abby Squicciarini, Mariah Elsenheimer, Kayla Doyle and Chanyce Powell took top honors in Division 2 (small schools) with a time of :50.38.

Squicciarini also placed third in both the 100 and 200. Her time of :25.44 in the 200 tied a Niagara-Orleans League record.

Powell also placed sixth in the long jump.

In the boys competition, Albion’s Justyn Haines placed third in the pole vault.

Barker’s Bryce Moeller won the pentathlon with a total of 3218 points.

The Raiders also had Jacob Haight place second in the high jump and third in the triple jump.

In the girls competition for Barker, Gabby Clare took fourth in the 400 hurdles.

The Medina/Lyndonville boys squad had Dalton Cerbone place fifth in the steeplechase and Matt Cochrane sixth in the triple jump.
