Albion opened the softball season on a high note by edging past visiting Brockport 6-5 this afternoon in a non league game.

Trailing 2-0, Albion rallied into the lead for good by scoring four times in the fourth inning on an RBI double by Alexis Bentley, an RBI single by Emani Poole and a two-run single by Kendall Derisley.

The Purple Eagles upped the lead to 6-2 by scoring twice in the fifth frame on a triple by Lexi Wolck and a fielders choice play off the bat of Brylie Hapeman. A single by Ella Knaak ignited the uprising.

Batavia did rally for three runs in the sixth to cut the deficit to 6-5 but Albion got out trouble with a clutch double play from Paige Derisley to Bryne Dysard.

The Purple Eagles also turned a double play in the second inning from Wolck to Aly Knaak.

Bentley and Poole both finished with two hits.

Albion next visits Batavia at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday in another non league contest.
