Albion, Newfane split in youth football

Contributed Photo – Jayce Torres (42) and Moses Taylor (6) were among the touchdown scorers for the Albion Beginners team.

Albion and Newfane both came away with a pair of wins in Niagara Orleans Football Association (NOFA)  action Saturday.

Albion won the Beginners game 34-0 and the Mini contest 46-6 while Newfane claimed the JV game 13-0 and the Varsity contest 41-0.

Beginner
Albion 34, Newfane 0

The Albion offense had 4 players with touchdown runs on the day. Moses Taylor had a 52 yard TD, Elian Almonte a 25 yard run, Cayden Farrell a 70 yard carry and Jayce Torres added 35 and 48 yard scampers.

Zion O’Neal led the defense with 4 tackles, Kairo Bennett, Harrison Froman, Conner Murphy and Jayce Torres added 2 each. Issac Button had a fumble recovery.

Mini
Albion 46, Newfane 6

Falling behind 6-0, Albion came up with 46 unanswered points to win 46-6.

Touchdown runs on the day were by Camden Holt of 50 yards, Giovanni LaMartina 35 yards, Connor Hinckley 44 yards, Lincoln Voorhees 70 yards and Heyden Almonte added 39 and 56 yard scores.

Almonte was a ball hawk on defense with a fumble recovery and 2 interceptions. One he returned for a pick 6 to go along with his 6 tackles. Hank Aina added 4 tackles, Connor Hinckley 3 and Colton Moreland 2.

JV
Newfane 13, Albion 0

Anthony Hall had 20 yards on the ground, Parker Roberts 18 and Anthony O’Neal 14 for Albion.

Landyn Galligan had a huge day on defense with 10 tackles, Colin Smith and Parker Roberts added 6 each. Matthew Schomske and Carter Farrell had 3 each.

Varsity
Newfane 41, Albion 0

Elijah Doxey had 37 yards rushing, 21 receiving and a great day blocking for the offense for Albion. Noah Harrison added 13 on the ground and 21 receiving.

On defense, Chrisjen Winters, Chris Almonte, Doxey and Harrison led the defense.
