Albion netters grab N-O lead

Barker upends Medina

Albion used the combination of a 4 1/2-1 victory over Roy-Hart with Barker’s 3-2 1/2 win over Medina to take over sole possession of the Niagara-Orleans tennis lead.

Albion improves to 7-1 while defending champion Medina slips into the runner-up spot at 6-2.

Straight set wins at second singles by Josh Metzler, 6-1, 6-2 over Jarod Shepard, and at third singles by Dan Beam, 6-0, 6-0 over Quinn Moreland, set the pace for Albion.

The Purple Eagles also scored a sweep of the three doubles matches.

Kyler McQuillan and Monica Benjovsky defeated Jon Eggert and Patrick Sheelar 6-1, 6-2 at first doubles. Cristal Quintana and Mike Stilwell downed Angelina Ciarfella and Kelsey Eldridge 6-0, 6-0 at second doubles. Kellie O’Hearn and Emilie Barleben bested Tim Moriarity and Jamie Swick 4-6, 6-4, 6-1 at third doubles.

Roy-Hart, which slips to 0-6, took the first singles match as Valeria Sillar downed Dyer Benjovsky 6-4, 7-6.


Barker improves to 4-3 with the victory at Medina as wins by Tristan Payne at second singles, 6-3, 6-3 over Tristan Sanders, and at third singles by Brian Hefferon, 6-0, 6-0 over Brandon Harris, led the way for the Raiders.

Barker also took the first doubles match as Erik Herian and Emma Duffy defeated Brian Bogan and Nick Dieter 0-6, 6-4, 6-3.

Medina took the first singles match as Kristian Snyder defeated Sean Benoit 6-4, 6-2.

The Mustangs also took the second doubles as Xion Baes and Michael Cardone downed Nick Fazzolrio and Lucy Bautista 6-3, 6-1 and the third doubles as Tom Horgan and Austin Owens defeated Patricia Bautista and Ian Goodlander 6-1, 6-2.


In the other N-O match, Akron evened its record at 4-4 with a 4 1/2-1 victory over Newfane which slips to 1-6.

Akron swept the three singles matches on straight set wins by Tyler Kelly, Ryan Meek and Nathan Chubb.

The Tigers also got wins by the second doubles team of Cierra Janis and Jacob Meyer and by the third doubles duo of Dustin Earle and Morgan Wagner.

Newfane took the first doubles match on a three-set win by Casey Gregory and Delaney Wasik.

Holley 4, Attica 1

Victories at the three singles matches by Brady Smith, Ian Penders and Jon Rusin sparked Holley to a 4-1 victory over Attica in a Genesee Region League match.

The Hawks also got a doubles win from the duo of Andrew Spychalski and Diana Yaroshuhuk,
