Albion nets key victory over Akron

Taking over sole possession of first place, defending champion Albion scored a 3 1/2-2 victory over visiting Akron this afternoon in a key Niagara-Orelans League tennis match.

The victory keeps Albion perfect at 6-0 while Akron slips into a tie for second place with Medina at 4-1.

A narrow three set victory by Dylan Bader at third singles by a score of 7-5, 5-7, 7-5 over Brandon Meek provided the margin of victory for Albion.

The Purple Eagles also got a key come-from-behind three set win by the first doubles team of Matt Kovaleski – Emilie Barleben 2-6, 7-5, 6-0 over Jacob Meyer – Cierra Janis.

Albion also got straight set wins by Matt Flanagan and Victor Benjovsky at second doubles (7-6, 6-3 over Morgan Wagner – Erica Papke) and by Owen Foos and Connor McQuillan at third doubles (6-2, 6-1 over Eliza Papke and Morgan Wdowka).

Akron took the first two singles matches as Ryan Meek downed Daniel Beam 6-4, 6-4 and Nathan Chubb topped Josh Metzler 6-0,  6-0.

Holley improved its Genesee Region League record to 4-1 with a 4-1 victory over Notre Dame.

Straight set wins at the first two singles positions by Brady Smith and Pablo Romero led the Hawks.

Holley also got wins by the doubles teams of Gabe Mendoza – Melanie Klossner and Derek McArthur – Jake DeSimone.
