Albion Midget League wraps up regular season

Barre capped off a 14-0 Albion Midget League regular season by downing St. Mary’s 12-7 this past week while runner-up Sandstone (10-3) bested Carlton 7-2 and Carlton nipped Rotary 11-10.

Barre got off to a fast start scoring 4 runs in the first inning on a triple by Jason Conn and singles by Tyler Gibson and Austin Narburgh and 5 times in the second as Cade Wolcott tripled and Gibson doubled.

Jayce Ashton had a triple and home run for St. Mary’s, driving in 5 runs. Reuben Rivers also launched a double that bounced over the fence.

Caleb Fox had a big day at the plate for Sandstone belting a three-run home run in the second inning and a two-run triple in the fifth. He finished with a total of 3 hits as Caden Uderitz, Jake Hughson and Kyle VanAmeron each had 2.  Van Ameron’s hits included a triple.

Jayden Allport hit a home run for Carlton.

Allport then had a huge night at the plate for Carlton against Rotary hitting a pair of home runs and driving in a total of 8 runs.

Finn McCue and Dylan Narburgh both added 2 hits and DeClan McCue a triple for Carlton.

Dallas Ecker had 4 hits and Mason Bennett and Simon Ellison 2 each for Rotary.  Bennett drove in a total of 5 runs.

The playoffs will begin on Tuesday as Carlton faces Vets and St. Mary’s takes on Rotary as Barre and Sandstone draw byes. The semifinals are slated for  Thursday and the championship game Saturday.

Standings: Barre 14-0, Sandstone 10-3, Vets 7-7, Rotary 4-10, St. Mary’s 4-10, Carlton 3-12.
