Albion Midget League holds All-Star games

The Albion Midget League held an All-Star doubleheader under the lights at the Albion High softball field Saturday.
In the 10U game the Rotary, St. Mary’s/Vets, Carlton team nipped the Barre, Sandstone, Holley squad 5-4.
In the 12 U contest the Sandstone, Vets, Rotary team downed the Barre, St. Mary’s, Carlton squad 9-3.
In the 10U game, Jack Kinter (St. Mary’s/Vets) registered a clutch strikeout with the bases loaded in the final inning to preserve Rotary, St. Mary’s/Vets,Carlton’s narrow victory.
The Rotary.St Mary’s/Vets, Carlton team jumped out to an early 5-0 lead by scoring twice in the first inning on hits by Mason Giattino, Xavier Byrd, Finn McCue and Kinter and three more in the second on hits by Ryan Schneph, Giattino, McCue and Kinter.
The Barre, Sandstone, Holley team did rally for 4 runs in the fifth inning on a couple of walks along with big hits from Owen Bentley, Oliver Beach and Jeff Conn.
The winners added a big run in the fifth on a a sacrifice fly by Dominic Jurs.
McCue and Kinter both finished with 3 hits as Giattino, Bentley and Jonathon Magee each added 2.
In the 12 U game the Sandstone, Vets, Rotary squad built up leads of 3-0, 6-0 and 8-1. Bobby Dysard (Vets) hit a solo home run in the first inning and a two-run double in the third frame. Chris Sacco (Sandstone) later had a two-run single to highlight a three-run fourth inning which also included hits by Simon Ellison (Rotary) and Vinnie Molisani (Vets). Doubles by Ellison and Dallas Ecker later helped to plate the final 2 runs in the sixth.
Bryce Wilson (Carlton) helped to dive in runs for Barre, St. Mary’s, Carlton in the fourth and sixth innings.
(This was the first time the Midget League has played on the school field under the lights since 2004. The league paid the district $130 and thanked the district for allowing use of the field.)
