Albion, Medina youth grid teams bow in playoff finals

MIDDLEPORT – The Medina Colts and Albion JV Eagles both bowed in the Niagara Orleans Football Association playoff championship games Saturday at Roy-Hart.

The Colts were blanked 19-0 by Akron in the Mini Division final and Albion dropped a 14-6 decision to Newfane in the JV Division title contest.

Aiden Smith scored two touchdowns and Travis Fry one to lead the way for Akron which held a narrow 6-0 lead at the half.

Iverson Poole and Aiden Pitts did most of the work carrying the ball for the Colts which had one drive stopped on downs at the Akron five yard line just before halftime.

The Colts defense stopped another Akron drive on a fumble recovery by Hayden Woodroe at the Medina 20.

No. 1 seed Medina, which finishes the season at 10-2, had nipped No. 2 seed Akron 7-6 during the regular season. Akron winds up at 11-1.

Briliance Johnson scored Albion’s lone touchdown on a 20 yard run. He finished with 87 yards rushing as Deyonci Farley added 70 and DeShawn Grace 34.

On defense for Albion, Byrce Kelly made seven tackles, Rylend Callicutt five and Kevin Hillman four.

Samual Kline scored both touchdowns for Newfane on long runs.

Top seed Newfane finishes the season at 12-0 and No. 2 Albion at 10-2.
