Albion, Medina youth football teams score playoff wins

Albion rallied for a touchdown in the final two minutes to edge the Medina Colts 20-13 Saturday in the Niagara Orleans Football Association Mini Division playoff semifinals at Vets Park.

Medina did get a split on the day as the Broncos blanked Newfane 26-0 in the JV Division semifinals.

Albion likewise split on the day dropping a 26-0 decision to Oakfield/Elba in the Varsity Division semifinals.

Amari Jones scored the game winning touchdown for Albion on a 1 yard run. He added the extra point pass to Sh’kwe Riley.

Earlier, Ameri Jones had a 19 yard touchdown run on fourth down in the third quarter and a 41 yard TD pass to Javon Jones.

Amari Jones finished with 87 yards rushing and Jacob Hughson 45, 33 of which came on the final drive. Javon Jones had 52 yards receiving and Hughson 25.

On defense, Amari Jones made 17 tackles, Javon Jones 8 and Hughson 7. Amari Jones also had an interception while Riley and Aquil Gaffney both had fumble recoveries.

Albion will next face Oakfield/Elba for the title next Saturday at Vets Park.

Lavonn Guy and Aiden Pitts each scored a touchdown for the Medina Colts whose defense was led by Josh and Ollie Wilson.

JV Division

Medina Broncos 26, Newfane 0
Brian Fry ran for three touchdowns on plays covering 4, 8 and 86 yards for the Medina Broncos as Iverson Poole also had a 38 yard TD run. Fry and Poole also both ran for extra points.

On defense for the Broncos, Rodney Davis and Fry both had sacks, Fry a forced fumble and Davon Shine a fumble recovery. Fry made 11 tackles, Carson Dusett and Emmanual Taylor 6 and Mitchell Silversmith 5.

The Broncos will next face Akron in the championship game next sturdy at Vets Park next Saturday.

Varsity Division

Oakfield/Elba 26, Albion 0
Ugene Harrison had 43 yards rushing and Isaiah Callicutt 30 for Albion.

Defensively for Albion, Harrison made 9 tackles and Nate Moore and Colton Howell 5 each. Ryan Grandy also had a sack.
