Albion, Medina youth baseball leagues set to open season

Delayed by persistent rainy weather, the Medina Youth Baseball League and the Albion Midget League are both planning to open the season this coming week.

The Medina League is again this season playing a joint schedule of games with the Roy-Hart Youth Baseball League in two divisions, the Major Division (formerly the Mini Division) and the Minor Division (formerly the Junior Mini Division).

Medina has five teams in the Major Division the Tops Twins, Woodroe Realty Blue Jays, Burger King Giants, MTA Yankees and Baxter Diamondbacks and five teams in the Minor Division the Mark’s Pizzeria Cardinals, Medina Savings and Loan Pirates, Fidelis Care Indians, TakeForm Mets and Hartway Orioles.

Roy-Hart has four teams in the Major Division – the Mariners, Orioles, Reds and Rockies – and three in the Minor Division – the Athletics, Diamondbacks and Royals.

The Medina/Roy-Hart schedule is expected to begin on Tuesday at 6 p.m. with the Yankees vs. Twins and Diamondbacks vs. Giants at Butts Park and the Mariners vs. Reds and Rockies vs. Orioles at Hartland. The first full date of games, eight in all, is slated for next Saturday with four contests each at Butts Park and Hartland.

The Albion Midget League will have eight teams this season including for the first time one from Holley.

The seven Albion teams include Sandstone, St. Mary’s, Active Hose, Carlton/Elks, Rotary/Lions, Vets Club and Barre.

The League is scheduled to begin this coming Saturday with opening ceremonies at 1 p.m. at the Midget League Field on Clarendon Street.

The opening day’s schedule will have Sandstone vs. Actives at 2 p.m. and Barre vs. Rotary at 4:30 p.m. at the Midget League Field, Vets vs. Carlton at 2:30 p.m. at Carlton and Holley vs. St. Mary’s at 2:30 p.m. at St. Mary’s.
