Albion, Medina to host football openers Fri.

New foes will provide the opposition as Albion and Medina will both kickoff the high school football season with home games at 7 p.m. Friday.

Albion will host Roy-Hart/Barker/Lyndonville in a B2 Division game while Medina will entertain Bishop Timon-St. Jude in a non league contest.

Roy-Hart/Barker/Lyndonville will be making its debut in 11 man competition after playing  its initial season in the Section V 8 Man Division this past spring.

Albion returns plenty of experience at the skill positions on offense including junior quarterback Amari Jones; seniors Jahmeek Riley, Bryce Froman,  Jr. Morales and  juniors Sh’Kwe Riley and Jacob Hughson at the running back spots along with seniors Ozzie Matos, Tyler Gibson, Ellwood Hafner, Brendan Lebaron and junior Javon Jones at the receiver positions.

Up front, the Purple Eagles return good experience in seniors Jabari Johnson, Angel Cruz, Simon Ellison, Rickey Lilly, Christopher Porter, Dayne Aina and Alex Hafner.

Leading Medina is a group of 10 returning starters who earned spots on the C North Division All-Star team including seniors Xander Payne (QB), Joe Cecchini (TE/DL), Iverson Poole (RB/DB), Zach Oliver (OL/LB), Jarin Rhim (TE/DL), Colvin Stalker (OL/DL) and Hayden Woodroe (WR/LB) along with juniors Chris Johnson ((OL/DL), Dominic Larabee (FB/DL) and Noah Skinner (RB/LB). Payne passed for 15 touchdowns this past spring.
