Albion, Medina spikers win sectional openers

Albion and Medina both posted straight set victories this evening to open Section VI volleyball playoff action.

No. 2 seed Albion defeated visiting No. 15 Lew-Port 25-16, 25-15, 25-13 in Class B while Medina topped host East High of Buffalo 25-18, 25-20, 25-15 in Class C.

Sarah Millspaugh had 9 spiking kills, Kelsee Soule 8 kills, Jasmyn Smith 5 aces and 8 assists, Chanyce Powell 6 kills and Meghan Hurley 4 kills and 11 assists to lead the way for Niagara-Orleans League champion Albion which next hosts a quarterfinal round contest at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Jenna Carpenter had 10 kills, Nicole Blount 3 kills and 6 aces, Brittany Schultz 3 kills, and Emily Kams 7 assists and 3 aces to set the pace for Medina.

Blount served up points 2-7 and 18-20 in the first set, Jade Kenyon points 11-15 in the second set and Carpenter points 12-18 in the third set.

Medina next visits Southwestern Tuesday in the quarterfinals.

Also in Class C, No. 7 Roy-Hart defeated visiting No. 10 JFK in three straight sets. Eliza Schwab led the Lady Rams with 5 kills, 2 blocks and 3 aces.
