A big six touchdown first half scoring explosion powered Albion/Medina to a 56-6 romp over Amherst in a B1 Division game this evening at Vets Park.

The Rivals jumped out to a quick 16-0 first quarter lead on touchdown runs of 53 and 2 yards by Elijah Doxey. Jayzon Wills and Doxey took turns running for the two-point conversions.

The Rivals, which played virtually the entire half in the Amherst end of the field, saw the advantage balloon to 43-0 at halftime after a burst of four touchdowns in the second quarter.

Doxey had touchdown runs of 13 and 18 yards, Wills a 3 yard TD carry and quarterback Preston Woodworth a 3 yard TD pass to Wills. Boe Preston tacked on three extra points kicks during that stretch.

A 50 yard punt return by Doxey set up Wills’ TD run and an interception by Rocco Sidari set up the Woodworth to Wills TD pass.

The Rivals capped off the lopsided victory with a pair of second half touchdowns on a 16 yard Woodworth to Noah Harrison pass in the third quarter and a 3 yard Preston to  Sidari pass in the final period. Preston added the PAT kick after the first score.

The second half was played with a running clock.

Albion/Medina improves to 5-1 in the division and 6-1 overall heading into next Friday’s regular season finale, a key B1 contest against McKinley at Albion.

Boe Preston throws a touchdown pass for the Rivals as Amherst’s Brian Fiorito trys to block the throw.
