Albion, Medina post road wins

Defending champion Albion romped past host CSAT 19-2 this afternoon to improve to 8-1 atop the Niagara-Orleans League baseball standings.

Medina stayed within two games of the top spot by downing host Newfane 7-2 to improve to 8-3.

In other N-O action, Roy-Hart trimmed Akron 7-4 and Barker blanked Wilson 13-0.

Those results give Albion a two game league lead as Akron slips to 7-3 while Roy-Hart is at 8-3.

Albion 19, CSAT 2
Sophomore Evan Pappalardo, who was just brought up from the JV ranks, hurled a five hitter with five strikeouts in six innings of work on the mound for Albion.

Aaron Burnside banged out four hits and Connor Barleben and Jason Downs three each to pace the Purple Eagles at the plate. Barleben drove in a total of five runs and Downs three.

Medina 7, Newfane 2
A three run second inning scoring burst on a two-run single by Shane Freeman and a sacrifice by Devonte Howard sparked Medina to the 7-2 win over Newfane.

Freeman and Hayden Allis both finished with three hits and Justin Morgan two.

The Mustangs later scored once in the fifth on a double by Matt Riemer, which followed a two-bagger by Josh Scroger, once in the sixth on an error and twice in the seventh on an RBI single by Freeman and an error.

Adam Hoot picked up the win on the mound scattering five hits and striking out 12.

The loss drops Newfane to 4-6.

Roy-Hart 7, Akron 4
A big six run third inning which was highlighted by a two-run homer by Austin Heschke and a two-run double by Cole Gregson sparked Roy-Hart past Akron 7-4.

CJ Fitch also had three hits and Josh Baptiste an RBI double for the Rams.

Fitch and John O’Brien combined for 11 strikeouts on the mound.

Zach Pfentner had a triple for Akron.

Barker 13, Wilson 0
A grand slam home run by Jake Demarais highlighted Barker’s 13-0 victory over Wilson.

Collin Webb had three hits for the Raiders as Demarais and Alonzo St. Louis both added two.

Ed Woolston picked up the win on the mound allowing three hits with eight strikeouts in five innings of work.

Barker is now 3-7 and Wilson 1-10.
