Albion, Medina netters win N-O openers

Defending champion Albion and Medina both opened Niagara-Orleans League tennis competition this afternoon with home court victories.

Albion defeated Newfane 4 1/2-1 and Medina blanked Roy-Hart 5 1/2-0.

A sweep of the three singles matches by Daniel Beam, Josh Metzler and Dylan Bader sparked Albion to the victory.

Beam defeated Jeremy Ribbeck 6-2, 6-1; Metzler downed Terrell Atkins 6-1, 6-1 and Bader bested Bobb Heers 6-3, 6-3.

The Purple Eagles also got straight set wins by the second and third doubles teams of Emilie Barleben – Victor Benjovsky and Owen Foos-Connor McQuillan.

Medina was likewise led by a trio of straight set singles wins as Kristian Snyder downed Elliot Spitzer 6-3, 6-1; Tristan Sanders topped Patrick Sheelar 6-1, 6-1 and Kayla Leno bested Angelia Ciarfella 6-1, 6-4.

The Mustangs also got straight set wins by the doubles teams of Carson Zgoda-Michael Cardone, Nick Bogan-Ray Paull and Brendan Harris-Toby Kiebala.

In one other N-O match, Akron defeated Wilson 3 1/2-2.

Wins at the first two singles by by Ryan Meek and Nathan Chubb keyed the victory for Akron which also took the second doubles on a win by the duo of Erika Papke and Morgan Wagner.

Albion next visits Roy-Hart and Medina travels to Wilson on Wednesday.

In a Genesee Region League match, a three set victory at third singles by Andy Bontrager keyed Alexander to a 3-2 win over visiting Holley.

Holley took the first two singles matches on wins by Brady Smith and Pablo Romero.
