Albion, Medina girls bow in N-O tilts

Wilson clinches title tie; Newfane wins to stay one game back

CSAT downed host Albion 51-41 and Akron bested visiting Medina 40-33 this evening in Niagara-Orleans League girls basketball action.

In the other two games, defending champion Wilson (13-0) clinched at least a tie for a sixth straight title by downing host Roy-Hart 50-31 and runner-up Newfane (12-1) stayed in the hunt for a share of the title by defeating Barker 40-32. Wilson will close out the N-O season against rival Newfane on Thursday.

Neely Abrams scored a game high 15 points and Ashley Mietz 11 for Akron which improves to 5-7.

Trailing 27-18 at the half, Medina rallied back to within two at 29-27 at the three-quarter mark but Akron countered with an 11-6 fourth quarter scoring edge to clam the win.

Molley Gross had 12 points and 10 rebounds and Maddy Winters 11 points and 8 rebounds for Medina which slips to 0-13. Emily Kams added 3 and Nicole Blount, Holly Heil and Rowan Hamner 2 each for the Mustangs.

Justice Nauden scored 18 and Chanyce Powell 14 for Albion which slips to 8-5. Mandi Covis chipped in with 3 and Olivia Prest, Jessica Raglan and Leah Townsend 2 each for the Purple Eagles.

Leading by a narrow 20-19 margin at the half, CSAT went on to out score Albion 31-22 in the second half to claim the win. CSAT led 36-29 at the three-quarter mark.

Kayla Neuman had 24 points, 6 steals and 6 rebounds and Rachel Senek 13 points, 7 rebounds and 5 steals to set the pace for Wilson which led 29-13 at the half.

Kendra Hill scored 10 and Taylor Fry 9 for Roy-Hart which slips to 2-11.

Up 10-8 after one quarter, Newfane used a 12-5 second period scoring edge to key the win over Barker.

Paige Emborsky scored 9, Emily Knight and Maggie Kropf 8 each and Bailey Koithan 7 to lead Newfane’s balanced attack.

Kelsie Flegal and Melissa Grosshans each scored 8 an Caitlyn Mason and Maicie Baker 6 each for Barker which slips to 4-9.
