Albion, Medina cagers earn home games for sectional quarterfinals

Earning top four seeds, Medina and Albion have both drawn a double bye into the quarterfinal round of the Section VI Class B1 boys basketball playoffs.

No. 3 seed Medina (10-9) will host a quarterfinal game at 7 p.m. Friday against either No. 14 Eden (2-17), No. 11 Newfane (5-14) or No. 6 Tonawanda (10-9). Newfane will host Eden in the opening round on Tuesday. The victor will then face Tonawanda in the pre quarterfinals on Wednesday. The winner of that contest will then visit Medina on Friday.

No. 4 Albion (10-9) faces a similar situation as the Purple Eagles will host either No. 13 Springville (3-15), No. 12 Alden (4-15) or No. 5 East Aurora (8-11) in the quarterfinals at 7 p.m. Friday. Springville will visit Alden in the opening round on Tuesday with the winner advancing to a meeting at East Aurora on Wednesday. The winner of that contest will then face Albion on Friday.

Niagara-Orleans League champion Wilson (16-3) is seeded No. 2 in Class B2. The Lakemen will host the winner of Wednesday’s No. 10 daVinci vs. No. 7 Emerson game in the quarterfinals at 7 p.m. Friday.

No. 14 Roy-Hart (6-13) will visit No. 11 JFK (11-8) in the opening round on Tuesday with the winner facing No. 6 Lackawanna (8-8) on Wednesday.

Also in Class B2, two N-O foes will meet in Wednesday’s pre quarterfinals as No. 9 Akron (11-8) visits No. 8 CSAT. The winner will then visit top seeded Cleveland Hill (16-3) in the quarterfinals on Friday.

In Class C1, No. 7 Barker (3-15) will visit No. 2 Tapestry (15-3) in the quarterfinals at 7 p.m. Friday.
