Albion matmen win Depew Tournament

Compiling a perfect 5-0 record, Albion captured championship honors at the Depew Wrestling Tournament today.

Albion defeated St. Mary’s 62-24, Maryvale 48-35, East Aurora 45-42 and Roy-Hart/Barker 54-34.

The Purple Eagles other victory was a criteria win over host Depew. The teams tied 42-42 but Albion claimed the win by virtue of winning 8 bouts to Depew’s 7.

A pin by Malachi Sugar in the final bout rallied Albion into the 42-42 deadlock with Depew.

Sugar and Cody Wilson both went 5-0 on the day for the Purple Eagles as Donamic Farley was 4-0, Preston Flugel and Ben Restivo 4-1 and Jessy Cruz 3-2.

Holley places second at Springville Tourney

Holley went 4-1 to place second at the Springville Tournament.

The Hawks lost to tourney champion Olean 51-28 in the first round but bounced back to defeat Springville 66-21, Sweet Home 53-27, North Tonawanda 72-12 and Wilson 46-37.

Brandon Gardner, Cade Aina and Jeremy Browe all went 5-0 on the day for the Hawks as Tristyn Moyer, Jayden Pieniaszek, Dylan Spellan and Nate Silversmith 4-1 and Erik Balys, Matt Hahn, Frank Flynn and Hunter McLean 3-2.

Medina competes at Batavia Tourney

Medina’s Elijah Sones placed second and Colby Petrie third at the Batavia Tournament. Petrie went 3-1 on the day and Sones 2-1.
