Albion matmen edge Barker/Roy-Hart
A win in the final bout locked up a 42-36 victory for Albion over visiting Barker/Roy-Hart this evening in a Niagara-Orleans League wrestling match.
Leading by a narrow 39-36 margin, the Purple Eagles clinched the victory on a decision win by Ugene Harrison (152).
Albion had jumped out to a 21-0 lead at the outset on pins by Blake Aina (160) in 2:19, Ben Restivo (182) in 4:25 and Donamic Farley (195) in 1:28 along with a decision victory by Jessy Cruz (170).
However, Barker/Roy-Hart answered with back-to-back pins by Nick Fazzolari (220) in 4:06 and Matt Steves (285) in 34 seconds to get back in the match.
A pin by Barker/Roy-Hart’s Brent Bachman (132) then was the only bout decided on the mat over the next seven as each team picked up three forfeits and there was a double forfeit leaving Albion up by a slender 39-36 margin with just one bout remaining.
Harrison then clinched the Purple Eagles victory with a high scoring 14-8 decision win.
Both teams are now 1-1 in N-O competition.
Wilson 39, Medina 38
Wilson nipped visiting Medina 39-38 as Jacob Sanborn (126), Kevin Hoover (152) and Von Miller (160) all earned pins for the Lakemen.
Riley Black (182), Joel Cruz-Robb (113), Colby Petrie (120), Austin Cox (138) and Joe Gates (145) all registered pins for Medina which also got a decision win from Jake Bensley (132).
Wilson is now 1-1 and Medina 0-2 in N-O action.
Contests postponed
The wintry weather caused the postponement of the Newfane at Akron N-O wrestling match and the Albion at Niagara Catholic non league girls basketball game.
