An Albion man, 56, died in a fishing accident Wednesday in the Susquehanna River in Broome County.

Joseph Kapral Jr. was fishing near the Ouaquaga Bridge fishing access in the Town of Colesville on Wednesday evening, Channel 12 News in Johnson City reported (click here).

Law enforcement say the accidental drowning happened when Kapral was out fishing with a friend. The two waded out near rapids and Kapral fell into deeper current, according to Channel 12 News in Johnson City.

Broome County Sheriff’s deputies say the friend was eventually able get Kapral to land where he was able to perform CPR. Because there was no cell phone reception in the area, the friend left to call for emergency help, the news station reported.

The Sheriff’s Office said Kapral died of an accidental drowning. A heart attack contributed to the drowning. Kapral was pronounced dead at the scene, Channel 12 reported.
