Albion, Lyndonville score Midget ‘A’ wins
Albion outlasted visiting Lockport 13-12 and Lyndonville blanked host Wheatfield/Cambria 3-0 this evening in Lockport Midget ‘A’ League baseball action.
Akron shutout visiting Roy-Hart 5-0 in the other contest.
Albion 13, Lockport 12
Trey Hart had three hits, including a pair of doubles, and winning pitcher Austin Loyd two, including a triple, to lead the offense for Albion which held leads of 7-0 and 13-6.
On the mound, Loyd struck out 12 in five innings of work.
Albion scored five quick runs in the first inning highlighted by a two-run triple by Loyd and RBI singles by Evan Pappalardo and Hart.
Randy Eblacker also had a two-run triple for Albion in the fifth inning.
Albion later scored what proved to be the deciding run during a four-run sixth inning uprising which included doubles by Aaron Burnside and Hart and three Lockport errors.
Will Collins and Tyler Goodridge both had two hits for Lockport.
Albion and Lockport are now both 1-1.
Albion next visits Lyndonville at 6 p.m. Thursday.
Lyndonville 3, Wheatfield/Cambria 0
Ty Hrovat hurled a four hit shutout with 9 strikeouts to lead Lyndonville past Wheatfield/Cambria 3-0.
Hrovat also singled in the only run Lyndonville needed as it turned out in the first inning. A single by Trevor Bentley, who had three hits on the evening, set up the threat.
Lyndonville quickly tacked on another run in the second inning on a single by Bentley which followed hits by Eddie Schiildt and Michael Wells.
Lyndonville added an insurance run in the fifth inning on a fielders choice play off the bat of AJ Buckland following singles by Wells and Bentley.
Lyndonville and Wheatfield/Cambria are now both 1-1.
Akron 5, Roy-Hart 0
Caleb Martin hurled a five hitter and also drove in two runs in the sixth inning to spark Akron to the win.
Akron, which is now 1-1, led by a narrow 1-0 margin heading into the sixth.
The loss drops Roy-Hart to 1-2.
