Albion locks up N-O title outright
Pounding out 21 hits, Albion put a firm lock on outright possession of a third straight Niagara-Orleans League baseball championship this afternoon with a 17-3 victory over host Akron.
John Warne had four hits and Steven Stauss, winning pitcher Conner Barleben and Noah Preston three each to lead the attack for Albion which improves to 11-1 in N-O competition. Stauss’ hits included two doubles as Warne and Preston each had one. Warne drove in a total of three runs.
The Purple Eagles also got two hits each from Dominic DiCureia, Trey Hart and Austin Loyd.
“This offense has really started to come around,” said Albion Coach Bruce Blanchard. “Our offense and pitching have been carrying us.”
Albion took charge at the outset scoring four times with two out in the first inning on a RBI singles by Barleben and Preston and a two-run single by Hart.
Barleben allowed three hits and struck out seven in five innings of work on the mound.
The loss drops Akron to 8-5.
