Albion hurler one hits Newfane

CSAT bests Medina; Barker, Roy-Hart post wins

Senior pitcher Jason Downs hurled a one hit shutout with 17 strikeouts to lead Albion to a 5-0 victory over visiting Newfane this afternoon in a Niagara-Orleans League game.

Albion scored what proved to be the game winning run in the first inning on a single by Brady Meakin as a pair of walks set up the threat.

The Purple Eagles finally opened up a little breathing room on a two-run double by Jaquess Harrison in the fifth inning.

Albion then put a lock on the victory by adding a pair of runs in the sixth frame on sacrifices by Kyle Smith and Randy Eblacker. Singles by Bryce Pritchard and Nate Moore set up the opportunity.

Albion, which next hosts CSAT on Friday, is now 2-0 in the league while Newfane is 0-1.

CSAT 12, Medina 9
Scoring in every inning but one, CSAT bested Medina 12-9 under the lights at Vets Park.

CSAT scored four quick runs in the first inning and later put a lock on the win with three tallies in the seventh.

Medina did battle back to within two at 9-7 after scoring three times in the bottom of the sixth as Brad McPherson and Matt Hahn both had RBI singles.

Medina then loaded the bases in the last of the seventh on two walks and a single by Trevor Luthart. The Mustangs capitalized on a pair of bases loaded walks for runs to cut the deficit to 12-9 but could get no closer as the bags were left full.

CSAT is now 1-0 and Medina 0-2 in N-O action.

Barker 3, Akron 2
Barker pushed across a run in the bottom of the seventh inning to nip visiting Akron 3-2 and improve to 2-0 in N-O action.

Devon Mangan singled and stole second to set up the Raiders last inning threat and Chauncy McKee capitalized by banging out a game winning two-out, RBI single.

Akron had tied the game at 2-2 with a run in the top of the seventh as Jacob Cummings singled, stole second and came home on a wild pitch.

Mike Snell went the distance on the mound for Barker scattering 3 hits and striking out 5.

Aaron Siska likewise pitched the whole game for Akron allowing 5 hits and striking out 10.

Akron is now 0-1.

Roy-Hart 19, Wilson 1
Erupting for six quick runs in the first inning, Roy-Hart went on to defeat host Wilson 19-1.

Cam Meadows went the distance on the mound for Roy-Hart scattering 7 hits and striking out 7.

Tim Maines had 3 hits, including 2 doubles and 5 RBIs, to lead the Rams attack which also included Al Xapsos with a double and triple. Joe Nolan and Justin Heschke both added a pair of hits. Nolan’s base raps included a double.

Roy-Hart is now 1-0 in the league and Wilson 0-2.
