Albion harriers edge Medina

Albion edged past Medina 28-31 this afternoon in a regular season ending Niagara-Orleans League cross-country meet at Newfane.

Evan Steier finished in third to lead the way for Albion while Medina’s Dan Heil won the race.

Newfane defeated Medina 20-37 and Albion 22-37 in the other portion of the meet.

The Newfane girls finished a 6-0 regular season by downing Medina 15-48 and Albion 16-47.

Albion bested Medina 19-42 in the other portion of the meet to improve to 5-1.

The Lady Panthers were led by the 1-2-3 finish of Vanessa Burkard, Nina Burkard and Kim Goerss.

The Wilson boys also scored a sweep defeating Akron 24-31 and Roy-Hart 16-43. Akron also bested Roy-Hart 19-36.

Wilson was led by the 2-3 finish of Will Schwarzmueller and Trey Rees as Akron’s Mike Swiniarski won the race.

The Akron girls likewise posted a sweep defeating Wilson 21-40 and Roy-Hart 19-44. Wilson gained a split by downing Roy-Hart 25-30.

Akron’s Margo Henley won the race as Roy-Hart’s Anna Rickard placed second and Wilson’s Julie Reagan third.

The league championships will be decided at the annual All-League meet on October 29 at Lakeside Beach State Park.

Boys Standings: Barker 6-0, Wilson 5-1, Newfane 4-2, Akron 3-3, Albion 2-4, Roy-Hart 1-5, Medina 0-6.
Girls Standings: Newfane 6-0, Albion 5-1, Akron 4-2, Medina 2-4, Roy-Hart 2-4, Barker 1-5, Wilson 1-5.
