Albion gridders roll past Newfane

NEWFANE – Regaining the .500 mark at 2-2, Albion posted a 49-6 victory over Newfane this afternoon in a interdivisional contest.

Quarterback John Warne threw three touchdown passes, two to Des Blackmon and one to Trey Hart to highlight the Albion attack.

The Purple Eagles also got a long interception return by Hart for a touchdown, a field goal by Mike Eldred and rushing touchdowns from both Ed Wolfe and Dominic DiCureia.

Eight tackles by both Steven Stauss and Kollin Reynolds and six by Dicureia highlighted Albion’s defensive effort.

Albion jumped out to a 13-0 first quarter lead on a 45 yard Warne to Hart touchdown pass and a 10 yard scoring run by Wolfe who set up that score himself by breaking off big runs of 21 and 29 yards.

Blackmon scored on a 13 yard run to make it 19-0 before Newfane scored its lone touchdown on a six yard pass by quarterback Josh Kneeland.

Albion though got that one back with interest on a 40 yard Warne to Blackmon touchdown pass and a 75 yard intercept return by Hart for a score to make it 33-6 at the half.

In the second half a 33 yard field goal by Eldred, a 12 yard Warne to Blackmon touchdown pass and a four yard scoring run by DiCureia rounded out the Purple Eagles scoring parade.

The loss drops Newfane to 1-3.
