Albion golfer has school record round

Sparked by a school record round of 32 by senior Nick Penna, Albion posted a 217-285 victory over Barker this morning in a Niagara-Orleans League golf match at Hickory Ridge.

Penna, who earned N-O All-League honors last fall, had birdies on holes 1, 3 and 5 in route to firing his record 3 under par round.

“It was quite a day for him,” said Coach Bill Dambra.

Patrick Ricker added a 42, Nick Perry 44 and Victor Benjovsky 48 for Albion which improves to 2-0.

Jake Harris had a 42 for Barker which slips to 0-2.

Medina also improved to 2-0 by downing Newfane 233-332 at Shelridge.

Ian Wagner took medalist honors with a 38 for Medina as Andrew Fuller shot 45 and Aidan Paul 46.

In the girls’ competition, Medina’s Melanie Green had a 36.

Defending champion Wilson split a pair of points with Akron on Wednesday. Akron won on strokes 250-253 and Wilson on the inverted score of 28-27.

Wilson’s Patrick Seeley took medalist honors with a 42 and Brennan Murty led Akron with a 45.
