Albion girls win sectional opener in double overtime; Eden tips Roy-Hart

No. 6 seeded Albion bested host No. 3 Springville 2-1 in double overtime this evening in the quarterfinal round of the Section VI Class B1 girls soccer playoffs.

The Purple Eagles had taken a 1-0 lead on a goal by Bonnie DiCureia midway through the second half off an assist from Claire Squicciarini.

However, Springville scored with two minutes to go to pull even and send the contest into overtime.

Albion will now host No. 7 Depew in the semifinals at 11 am. Wednesday. Depew upset No. 2 Olean 1-0 on a second half goal.

The win was the seventh in a row for the 8-3 Purple Eagles after a slow 1-3 start to the season.

Eden 2, Roy-Hart 1

Rebounding from an early 1-0 deficit, No. 6 seed Eden rallied to nip host No. 3 Roy-Hart 2-1 this evening in the quarterfinal round of the Section VI Class B2 girls soccer playoffs.

Roy-Hart jumped out to a quick lead when Kara Choate scored her team leading 18th goal of the season on a shot from a sharp angle just 5:36 into the game.

However, the Lady Rams could not find the net again.

Eden rallied into a tie when Allison Banko scored off a scramble in front of the net with just 3:30 to go in the opening half.

The Lady Raiders then netted the game winning goal on a shot by Banko with 21:18 to go in the second half.

Roy-Hart finishes the season at 8-3.

Eden will take an 9-6-2 record into Wednesday’s semifinal at No. 2 seed Wilson.
