Albion girls sweep in cross-country opener

The Albion girls opened the Niagara-Orleans League cross-country season on a high note by defeating Akron 31-24 and host Barker 23-35 this afternoon.

Akron downed Barker 24-37 in the other portion of the tri-meet.

Albion was led by the 2-3 finish of Emma Mathes and Hannah Grammar.

Barker’s Gabrielle Baker won the race as Jessica Haseley finished fifth for the Lady Raiders.

Amanda Ciurzynski finished fourth for Akron.

The defending champion Barker boys downed Albion 17-46 and Akron 21-38. Akron also bested Albion 22-35.

Barker was sparked by the 2-3-4 finish of Jake Arnold, Brent Bachman and Adam Wagner.

Akron’s Mike Swinigrski won the race.

Albion’s Evan Steier placed fifth.

Roy-Hart swept visiting Medina/Lyndonville winning the boys race 15-50 and the girls 21-36.

Medina/Lyndonville had the top two finishers in the boys race with Dan Heil and Jack Hill.

Roy-Hart’s Tanner Bulmer finished third.

The 1-2 finish of Anna Rickard and Kelsey Ciemny led the war for the Lady Rams as Hannah Heil placed third for the Mustangs.

The Wilson boys bested rival Newfane 20-35.
