A lone late goal proved to be just enough to earn Albion a rain soaked 1-0 victory over visiting rival Medina this morning in a Niagara-Orleans League girls soccer game.
Emily Blanchard scored her team leading 18th goal of the season with just seven minutes remaining in the second half, off an assist from Sarah Gregori, to earn the streaking Purple Eagles their eighth straight victory after a slow 0-3-1 start to the N-O season.
Isabella Prest earned the shutout in goal.
The Purple Eagles and Mustangs had battled to a 2-2 double overtime tie in their earlier season meeting at Vets Park, the last game before Albion’s current win streak began.
Albion finishes the regular season at 8-3-1 in the league and 10-5-1 overall.
Medina, which is now 3-6-1 in the league and 4-9-1 overall, next visits Wilson on Wednesday.
