Albion girls score overtime soccer win

Albion scored three unanswered goals in overtime to defeat York 5-2 this afternoon in the consolation game of the Kendall girls soccer tournament.

Breaking away from a 2-2 deadlock at the end of regulation time, Albion regained the lead for good on a goal by Claire Squicciarini with 1:49 to go in the first 10 minute overtime period off an assist from Mariah Plain.

The Purple Eagles then put a lock on the victory by scoring twice in the second 10 minute overtime period.

Squicciarini made it 4-2 with a goal at the 7:38 mark off an assist from Abby Scanlan.

Kendall Derisley then netted the clincher when she scored just 1:18 later off an assist from Scanlan to make it 5-2.

Albion also got off to a strong start building up a 2-0 lead as Scanlan scored 14 minutes into the first half from Squicciarini and then Nicolina Creasey tallied  19 minutes into the second half.

However, York came battling back with two goals in the final four minutes on tallies by Morgan Major and Adison Plank to send the contest into overtime.

Improving to 3-1, Albion next hosts Newfane Monday in a Niagara-Orleans League game.

Albion’s Claire Squicciarini brings the ball up field ahead of York defenders Sydney Boyd and Elexis Dixon.

Attica 5, Lyndonville.Medina 2
Attica bested visiting Lyndonville/Medina 5-2 in a Genesee Region League game.

Ella Lewis scored both goals for Lyndonville/Medina in the second half.

Now at 0-2 in the league and 0-3 overall, the Lady Tigers next visit Holley on Monday.

Field Hockey
Mt. Lebanon 3, Barker 0
Building up a 2-0 half-time advantage Mt. Lebanon, Pa. went on to defeat visiting Barker 3-0 this afternoon in a non league field hockey game.

Barker next visits Upper St. Claire, Pa. on Sunday.

Volleyball
Medina went 4-2 in the pool play round of the Albion Volleyball Tournament today defeating Roy-Hart 2-0 and splitting with Oakfield-Alabama and Newfane.

Pembroke then defeated Medina 2-0 in the playoffs.

Devin Griffin had 12 spiking kills on the day for the Mustangs as Elle Gross added 8 and Anya Bloom and Ayzha Pitts 5 each.
