Albion girls rally to win tourney semi
Photo by Cheryl Wertman – Chanyce Powell scored 33 to led Albion past Wheatland-Chili in the W-C tourney semifinal this evening.
Coming on strong in the second half after a slow start, Albion downed the host school 59-54 this evening in the opening round of the Wheatland-Chili Tournament.
Chanyce Powell poured in a game high 33 points, 19 of which came in the second half, to spearhead the Albion attack.
Justice Nauden added 11 points, for Albion as Zhoe Starkweather had 5, Sarah Metzler and Savannah Allen 4 each and Mandi Covis 2 for the Purple Eagles.
W-C jumped out to leads of 15-9 after one period and 26-21 at the half.
Powell scored 14 in the opening half to help keep Albion close.
Albion though came battling back to outscore W-C 17-11 in the third period to rally into a 38-37 lead at the three-quarter mark. Powell netted 8 and Nauden 5, including a three, to lead the Purple Eagles rally.
Albion then closed out the victory by outscoring W-C 21-7 in the final period as Powell erupted for 11 to lead that successful stretch run.
Now at 1-3, Albion will now face Caledonia-Mumford in the championship game at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday. Cal-Mum downed Northstar in the other semifinal.
