Albion girls post win over Buffalo Arts

Moving back above the .500 mark at 5-4, Albion posted a 39-34 victory over visiting Buffalo Performing Arts in the non league girls basketball game this evening.

Brylie Hapeman scored 9 to lead the way or Albion as Sarah Gregori and Kendall Derisley both added 6, Lexi Wolck and Paige Derisley 5, Kirsten Struble 4 and Natalie Lathrop and Honesty Little 2.

Dylan Benedict took game high honors with 11 while Elyse Neilson added 10 and Courtney Meredith 8 for Arts.

Albion took a slender 10-9 lead at the end of the opening period which saw Gregori score two baskets and Wolck and Kendall Derisley one each.

Two threes by Neilson helped Arts rally into a 17-12 lead midway through the second period. However, Albion closed the stanza with a 10-2 run highlighted by a three and a closing layup off a steal by Hapeman to region a 20-19 lead at the half.

Buckets by Hapeman, Paige Derisley, Struble and Kendall Derisley helped Albion open up a 29-23 lead late in the third period but Arts answered with closing 6-0 run to slice the Purple Eagles lead to just one, 29-28, at the three-quarter mark.

It stayed a tight one point, 33-32, game until Albion finally pulled away for good with a 6-0 run on baskets by Little, Kendall Derisley and Hapeman.

Albion next visits Akron on Friday in a Niagara-Orleans League game at 6:30 p.m.
