Albion girls nip Roy-Hart in overtime

In a down to the wire thriller, Albion edged past host Roy-Hart 54-51 in overtime this evening in a wild Niagara-Orleans League girls basketball game.
Albion pulled out the narrow win on a three by Mandi Covis with 6 seconds to go in the overtime period.
Roy-Hart had forced the extra period when Emma Lindke made two pressure free throws with just 1.9 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter to knot the contest at 45-45.
Chanyce Powell, who fouled out a minute into the overtime period, took game high scoring honors for Albion with 22 and Justice Nauden netted 17. Covis added 6, Sarah Metzler 4, Jayne Bannister and Jessica Raglan 2 and Savannah Allen 1 for the Purple Eagles.
Lindke led Roy-Hart with 18 as Kendra Hill added 11, Rachel Rausch 7, Taylor Fry and Rielly Albee 6 and Alyssa Hess 3.
Roy-Hart led 8-6 after one period but Albion rallied into a 17-14 advantage at the half as Nauden had a three and a layup and Covis a three.
The Purple Eagles then opened the third period with a big 15-7 scoring surge to move out to an 11 point, 32-21 advantage. Powell had a total of 11 points to lead that uprising including three rebound buckets.
Roy-Hart though closed the third period with a 6-0 run including a jumper by Lindke and a three by Alyssa Hess to cut the deficit to five at 32-27.

Keeping the momentum, the Lady Rams then opened the fourth quarter with a big 16-4 scoring surge to rally into a seven point, 43-36, advantage. Hill had a layup and a three during that rally which also included baskets by Lindke, Fry, Albee and Rausch.
However, Albion came battling back as back-to-back threes by Nauden ignited a 9-0 run which rallied the Purple Eagle back into a 45-43 lead. Powell added a jumper and Allen a free throw to cap that rally.
Roy-Hart then sent the contest into overtime when Lindke made two free throws with just 1.9 seconds to go to retie the contest at 45-45.
Albion jumped out to a 49-45 lead at the outset of the four minute overtime period on buckets by Powell and Raglan only to see Roy-Hart rally right back into a tie on a layup by Hill and two free throws by Lindke.
Two free throws by Nauden off a steal put Albion up 51-49 but again Roy-Hart answered right back with a tying basket, this time a jumper by Hill, which evened the contest at 51-51 with 15 seconds remaining.

The tight sea-saw battle was then decided when Covis hit a huge three with six seconds remaining for a 54-51 Albion lead. Roy-Hart did get a last second shot off but it was off target as Covis came away with the rebound.
Albion improves to 6-3 in N-O action while Roy-Hart slips to 1-8.
Barker 43, Medina 29
Melissa Grosshans scored 14, Caitlyn Mason 11 and Maicie Baker 9 to lead Barker past host Medina 43-29.
Molley Gross led Medina with 12.
Barker jumped out to a 12-6 first period lead as Grosshans hit a pair of threes.
The Lady Raiders boosted its advantage to 23-10 at the half and to 34-20 at the three-quarter mark. Grosshans had two baskets in both the second and third period while Baker had two buckets in the second and Mason two in the third.
Barker is now 3-5 in N-O action and Medina 0-9.
Newfane 53, Akron 26
Improving to 8-1 in N-O competition, Newfane roared out to a 39-5 halftime advantage and coasted to a 53-26 victory over Akron.
Roy-Hart’s Rielly Albee (12) puts up as shot against Albion defenders Jayne Bannister and Jessica Raglan.
Paige Emborsky scored 15 and Allison Emborsky 12 for Newfane.
The loss drops Akron to 3-4.
Wilson 52, CSAT 45
Defending champion Wilson stayed perfect at 8-0 by downing host CSAT (5-4) 52-45 as Rachel Senek had 19 poins and 10 rebounds and Mercedees Rees 10 points and 11 rebounds.
Wilson led 32-16 at the half.
Elba 52, Lyndonville 38
Leading by a narrow 26-22 margin at the half, Elba used a 16-8 third period scoring edge to key a 52-38 victory over host Lyndonville in a Genesee Region League game.
Jasmine Plummer scored 11 for Lyndonville as Aubry Lewis and Chelsea Poler both added 9, Morgan Hungerford 6, Rebekah Hoffee 2 and Gabby Dusett 1.
Byron-Bergen 56, Holley 28
Sam Barniak scored 14 and Jade Underwood 9 for host Holley in the 56-28 G-R loss to Byron-Bergen which led 28-16 at the half.
Pembroke 36, Kendall 23
Up 21-15 at the half, Pembroke went on to defeat host Kendall 36-23 in a G-R contest avenging an earlier season 26-25 home court loss.
Tania Arellano had 12 points and 10 rebounds and Taylor ReQua 6 steals and 5 points for Kendall.
