Albion girls’ late surge tops Medina
A big fourth quarter scoring surge keyed Albion to a 42-20 victory over visiting rival Medina this evening in a Niagara-Orleans League girls basketball game.
Leading by a narrow 21-16 margin, Albion outscored Medina 21-4 in the decisive fourth quarter to claim the win. Savannah Allen scored 8 points, Justice Nauden 6 and Chanyce Powell 4 to lead the Purple Eagles decisive uprising.
Powell had a total of 16, Allen 11 and Nauden 10 on the evening.
Molley Gross scored 8, Emily Kams 4 and Nicole Blount 3 for Medina.
Medina jumped out to an 8-7 first period lead as Gross and Kams both tallied four.
Powell kept Albion close by netting six during that stretch.
Albion rallied into a 14-14 tie at the half and then used a 7-2 third period scoring edge to take a 21-16 lead at the three-quarter mark. Nauden scored 4 in the second period and Powell 5 in the third.
Albion is now 3-2 and Medina 0-5 in N-O action.
Newfane 43, Roy-Hart 39
Brooke Horning scored 14 and Paige Emborsky 13 to lead Newfane to the 49-39 victory over visiting Roy-Hart.
Emma Lindke and Kendra Hill both scored 14 for Roy-Hart which trailed 22-18 at the half.
Newfane is now 5-0 and Roy-Hart 1-4 in N-O competition.
Wilson 56, Barker 24
Defending champion Wilson stayed unbeaten at 5-0 with a 56-24 victory over Barker.
Kayla Neumann scored 14, Rachel Senek 9 and Megan DiLaura 8 to set the pace for Wilson which led 11-4 after one quarter, 20-7 at the half and 37-16 at the three-quarter mark.
CSAT 54, Akron 53 OT
Maggie Kowalik scored 25 and Cailin Regan 11 for Akron (2-2) in a narrow 54-53 overtime loss to CSAT (2-2).
Pembroke 44, Lyndonville 29
Rebekah Hoffee scored 8, Aubrey Lewis 7 and Morgan Hungerford and Jasmine Plummer 6 each for Lyndonville in the 44-29 Genesee Region League loss at Pembroke.
Elba 45, Holley 31
Sam Barniak scored 15, Tabitha Swift 10 and Jade Underwood 6 for Holley in a 45-31 G-R loss to visiting Elba. Underwood also grabbed off 10 rebounds and Swift 5.
