Albion girls downed by Cleve Hill

A big second quarter scoring edge keyed Cleveland Hill to a 49-40 victory over host Albion this evening in a season opening non league girls basketball game.
Breaking away from a 14-14 deadlock, Cleve Hill outpointed Albion 16-7 in the decisive second period. Sidney Turley scored 7 of her 20 points in the stanza to help the Lady Eagles open up a 30-21 half-time advantage.
Cleve Hill led 40-27 after three-quarters and by as many as 15, 44-29 early in the final stanza as the closest Albion could get down the stretch was 6 at 46-40.
Turley scored Cleve Hill’s final 5 points to help lock up the win for the Lady Eagles.
Chanyce Powell took game high scoring honors for Albion with 22. She tallied 7 in the final stanza to lead the Purple Eagles comeback bid.
Sierra Newton added 6 and Natalie DiCureia 4 for the Purple Eagles as Emily Blanchard, Sierra Chudy, Nicole Eldred and Caitynn Snook each added 2.
Albion next hosts Notre Dame in another non league game at 7 p.m. Friday.
